CGC - Canine Good Citizen
This class will test your skills as a handler!
The purpose of this test is to ensure that our 4-legged extended family members, can be a respected member of the community, through training and coaching, to be well behaved in their home, in public places and with new "friends" around!
CGC is not judgmental! This class + test challenges puppies as young as 6 months to literally, ANY age!
If you are looking at a Therapy Dog "Career" for your pup/dog, this certification is your golden ticket to that "career"!
(You can test your 6-month puppy, but you will need to be re-evaluated by a year old, this is because, puppies go through 4 mental changes in their first year, so it's natural for behaviors to be "forgotten" or just flat out not doing them)
Some things you will learn and conquer:
- Sitting politely for petting
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Grooming / Appearance
- Sit/Down/Stay - 20 ft. distance + 30 seconds
- Walking through a crowd - tighter "Cruise Control"
- Reaction to another dog
- Reactions to distractions
- Coming when called
- Out for a walk - "Cruise Control"
And the dreaded...duh duh duuuuuh...
